What is the difference between Seller, Service Provider, and OEM on GeM?
Seller: Sells physical products (goods, equipment).
Service Provider: Provides services (consulting, IT, maintenance, etc.).
OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer): Manufactures the products under own brand. OEMs get preference and higher trust from buyers.
Reseller: Sells products manufactured by others (needs OEM authorization).
Do I need to be an MSME to register on GeM?
No, MSME registration is NOT mandatory. However, MSMEs get preferential treatment including 25% procurement reservation, priority in tenders, exemption from EMD (Earnest Money Deposit), and turnover/prior experience relaxation. We recommend getting Udyam Registration first if you’re an MSME.
